Conditions we treat

Allergies and asthma can affect everyday life in many different ways.

At Tokai Allergy & Asthma, I care for babies, children and adults with a wide range of allergic conditions.

Asthma

Asthma can cause coughing, wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath.

Symptoms may be triggered by exercise, infections, allergens or changes in the weather.

Good asthma care is about more than treating symptoms when they occur.

I assess asthma control, check inhaler technique and lung function where appropriate, and work with you to develop a treatment plan that helps reduce future flare-ups.

Asthma

Allergic Rhinitis (Hay fever)

A constantly blocked or runny nose, sneezing and itching can affect your sleep, concentration and everyday comfort. Symptoms may be seasonal or occur throughout the year.

At Tokai Allergy & Asthma, we help identify possible allergy triggers, such as house dust mites, pollen or pets, and guide you through treatment options.

For suitable patients, allergen immunotherapy may offer longer-term relief.

Hayfever or Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic Conjunctivitis (Eye Allergy)

Itchy, watery or red eyes are common symptoms of eye allergies, often occurring alongside hay fever.

We assess your symptoms and possible triggers, and recommend treatment to help relieve irritation and prevent recurring symptoms.

Not all red or irritated eyes are caused by allergy, so getting the diagnosis right is important.

Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)

Eczema is much more than dry skin. It involves a weakened skin barrier and inflammation, which can lead to persistent itching, disturbed sleep and recurring flare-ups.

We help patients and families understand what drives eczema, how to care for the skin barrier and how to use treatments effectively.

Allergy testing is considered when the history suggests it may be helpful, rather than being a routine part of eczema care.

Eczema

Food allergy

A suspected food allergy can be particularly worrying, especially when it involves a baby or young child.

Reactions can range from mild symptoms to more serious allergic reactions.

A careful history is the starting point. I help assess suspected food reactions, interpret allergy tests where appropriate and provide guidance on food avoidance and next steps.

Our aim is to avoid unnecessary dietary restrictions while keeping patients safe.

Urticaria (Hives)

Hives are itchy, raised patches on the skin that may appear suddenly, disappear within hours or keep coming back.

They can sometimes occur together with swelling beneath the skin, known as angioedema.

Not all hives are caused by allergy.

We help distinguish between acute and chronic urticaria, consider possible triggers and develop a treatment plan to control symptoms and improve quality of life.

Drug allergy

Drug allergy

Not every unpleasant reaction to medication is a true allergy. In fact, many people who have been told they are allergic to penicillin may be able to take it safely.

We assess suspected medication allergies, with a particular focus on penicillin allergy.

For suitable low-risk patients, a supervised oral penicillin challenge may help establish whether an allergy label can safely be removed.

Insect sting allergy

Most insect stings cause temporary pain and swelling, but some people experience more significant allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.

We assess previous reactions to bee and wasp stings, discuss appropriate investigations and help patients understand their future risk.

Where specialised venom testing or immunotherapy is needed, I can arrange referral to an allergy specialist.

Bee allergy

Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is a potentially severe allergic reaction that can develop rapidly and requires immediate treatment with adrenaline.

Following a suspected episode, it is important to understand what may have caused the reaction and how to prepare for future emergencies.

We offer assessment, guidance on adrenaline autoinjector use and personalised anaphylaxis action plans, with specialist referral where appropriate.

Epipen

Not sure what is causing your symptoms?

You don't need to know exactly what is causing your symptoms before booking.

We can discuss your concerns, consider possible causes and work out the most appropriate next steps together.
